South Shell Park is a waterfront destination in Oakville, Ontario, offering visitors scenic views of Lake Ontario and a welcoming recreational space for families.
In 2008, the Environmental Strategic Plan Advisory Committee identified the opportunity to implement a permeable parking lot at South Shell Park. This initiative aligned with the Town of Oakville’s Official Plan, “Livable Oakville,” which emphasizes the integration of stormwater management techniques in new developments to effectively control both the quality and quantity of runoff.
As part of the original installation, Eco-Optiloc® pavers were selected for the parking lot due to their proven durability, permeability, and long-term performance.
Today, the park has undergone a refresh and is ready for its next chapter. As part of this upgrade, designers selected DuraFlow® pavers in Natural for the parking area. Chosen for their innovative technology, high permeability, and heavy-duty performance, DuraFlow® pavers provide an advanced permeable paving solution. Their unique design features patented openings, known as “cupules,” which allow for rapid water infiltration while enabling efficient cleaning and simplified maintenance using standard street-sweeping equipment.
This upgrade ensures long-term performance and reliability, supporting the Town’s ongoing stormwater management initiatives and commitment to sustainable infrastructure.
