Polk Bros Fountain and Plaza is at the entry point to Navy Pier and features a signature programmable fountain during the summer months that will be converted into an ice rink during the winter. Surrounded by a large plaza and performance lawns, this space encourages year-round activity such as live arts and culture events. Designed as part of the master plan of Navy Pier, James Corner Field Operations used the same paving materials that were used on the pier for a cohesive and united appearance. The salt and pepper custom aggregate Series 3000® finish is designed to withstand the heavily trafficked use of this park. This unique finish does not wear or fade as the aggregate becomes more polished and honed with use because it is manufactured into the surface. As it wears, it becomes even better looking!
