The East Side Coastal Resiliency Project at John v. Lindsay East River Park is a groundbreaking initiative, designed to protect Lower Manhattan from sea level rise and coastal flooding. This project reimagines how community, nature and infrastructure can coexist.

The recently completed phase 1 of the ESCR project addresses the main flooding concern while incorporating many design elements that enhance access, resilience, and quality of life along the waterfront.

Unilock is proud to contribute to this visionary project with our pavers, featured prominently along the widened waterfront esplanade. The design team selected Series™ in the Hex 8″ shape and a light palette of three custom colors to assist with heat mitigation. The final paving design blended in patterns that evoke both the lapping waves of the shoreline and a nod back to the design of the pre-existing park.

This first phase of the East Side Coastal Resiliency Project is more than just a public space; it’s a powerful example of how thoughtful planning and critical infrastructure can protect and elevate communities for generations to come.
