The Uptown Alleyway project covers approximately 65,000 square feet, of which 35,000 is permeable, both vehicular and pedestrian areas. Unilock was asked to recommend an un-precedented solution to the project team based on the design objectives.

A 4″x16″x4″ paving stone from the Promenadeâ„¢ Plank Paver series provided the shape and module desired and the Series 3000® finish delivered resistance to the long-term effects of UV degradation as well as the everyday environmental effects. Custom grey colors completed the design with the right tonal balance. Vehicular grade spacers were added to create the permeable joints, and ASTM #9 chip was used in the voids to allow storm water to be transmitted vertically while being filtered. This is the City of Cleveland’s first permeable public roadway.

From Case Western Reserve University to the new Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), uptown attractions and amenities are now all connected transforming the urban zone into a flourishing, eclectic, arts and entertainment district.
