Lovejoy Wharf is a stunning waterfront public plaza and park that boasts breathtaking views of the Boston Harbor and The Zakim Bridge. It serves as a vital link between the West and North End, improving pedestrian access to the Charles River Dam.
The landscape design by Copley Wolff Design Group includes the harborfront walkway and plaza, raised planters with trees and shrubs, green space and a large pedestrian stair from the Washington Street Bridge to the pier below. To ensure the safety of all types of site users, the materials used for the mix of pedestrian and vehicular access points along the southern edge was carefully addressed. Delineation was achieved through the installation of bollards and pavement variations, including Unilock concrete pavers. These pavers, with their contrasting finishes (brushed vs. smooth) and color tones (beige vs. grey), help to distinguish between pedestrian and vehicular areas and serve as a wayfinding feature to enhance walkability.
Open since 2015, the rejuvenated Lovejoy Wharf is a vibrant place for gathering and reflection in its distinguished location within the City of Boston.
