Working with Mattamy Developments and the Town of Oakville, NAK Design Strategies helped plan, design and oversee the construction of a pedestrian ‘Promenade’ along the edge of a storm water management pond servicing the first phase of the Preserve Community in North Oakville. Envisioned as an urban trail, the Promenade links 35 rear-lane town homes and a block of Live/Work units that front directly onto the pond. This scenario presented access, maintenance and urban design challenges which required significant coordination with all parties involved. Unilock’s Artline™ pavers were chosen to provide the paving solution that addressed these concerns. The product worked with the development budget and helped create the high aesthetic standard the project demanded. By alternating patterns and limiting the color palette to just two colours the product accommodated the design intention to define areas of ‘travel’ and ‘rest’ along the trail route. ‘Travel’ areas were defined with Artline™ Granite Fusion blend, while ‘rest’ areas were defined with Unilock’s Umbriano® Midnight Sky colour blend.
