The historic Witherspoon Street in Princeton, NJ, has long been a vital corridor, rich in cultural and architectural heritage. Distinguished by its vibrant community and significant landmarks, the street has undergone various transformations over the decades. The recent Witherspoon Street Improvement project aims to enhance both pedestrian safety and overall aesthetics through a series of meticulously planned phases.
The project commenced with Phase 1, revitalizing the business district with key enhancements, including widened sidewalks and the addition of pedestrian-friendly features such as street lighting and greenery. These improvements not only increased the functionality of the space but also fostered a welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors. Phase 2, spanning from Green Street to Leigh Avenue, continued this trend with the addition of curb extensions and raised crosswalks, further ensuring pedestrian safety and comfort. Phase 3, set to finish in fall 2024, will extend these improvements from Leigh Avenue to Valley Road. This phase will focus on additional sidewalk widening, curb extensions, and the introduction of a sustainable rain garden, ensuring sustained prosperity for the area.
A standout feature of this project is the use of Hollandstoneâ„¢ pavers with Umbriano® finish in Midnight Sky. Selected for their durability and aesthetic charm, these pavers provide a timeless appearance that harmonizes with the historic ambiance of Witherspoon Street. The use of these pavers ensures a cohesive and functional streetscape, enhancing the pedestrian experience while maintaining the area’s unique identity.
