The United Nations Secretariat building in Manhattan replaced its sixty year old single-pane glass window panels with double-glazed panels as part of their renovation and green mandate. The old window glass was ground into a ‘pozzolan’ called PozzotiveĀ® and used to replace 20% of the portland cement in the permeable paver EcolocĀ®, from Unilock. Pozzolan Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCM) is an environmentally friendly cement replacement made entirely of post consumer recycled glass. In addition to being a recycled component, approximately one pound of CO2 is saved per square foot of Unilock permeable pavers produced containing SCM. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), about 12 million tons of glass are brought to landfills each year. Pozzotive SCM/Pozzolan creates a solution to divert glass from landfills and transform what was once a waste product into a valuable resource that reduces our carbon footprint. Available by special order only, call your representative for details.
