Chicago’s historic Navy Pier completed phase 1 of its reimagination to celebrate their 100th anniversary this year. The 50 acres of urban lakefront is a spectacular global destination and new model of sustainability that transforms this world-class destination. Designed by architecture firm James Corner Field Operations, the concept plan puts the latest in ecological design principles and environmental best management practices to work – calling for a complete transformation of Navy Pier’s outdoor landscape into a more vibrant setting for recreation and social life. A more open and tree-lined South Dock Promenade, as well as an expansive and newly developed Polk Bros. Park and Fountain were created. Unilock worked with JCFO to create an entirely custom group of products to fulfill their vision. From color, finishes, sizes and recycled content, the ideal solution was created for this location that embraces the lake, the city’s culture and the Pier’s spectacle. The resulting ‘pierscape’ invites visitors to escape the hard edges of the city and enjoy unfettered views of the majestic open waters of Lake Michigan in a more natural setting. In November of 2017, Navy Pier was awarded Sustainable SITES Initiative (SITES) Gold Certification. Watch a short video about the Navy Pier project.
