Minuteman Tech undertook a renovation project that resulted in the creation of a new state-of-the-art academic campus. The new facility was built to support the evolving educational needs of students, tailored to high demand careers in the region’s labor market. This, along with the fact that the old building had significantly deteriorated, led to the construction of the new Minuteman High School building. The new design includes large classrooms, vocational programs organized into trade clusters, a “main street” retail area, and break out spaces for small-group learning.
The key to a successful design on this project was longevity. The goal was to mitigate the risk of the facility deteriorating, as the old building had. During the design phase, Unilock worked with the team at Kaestle Boos Associates to choose a paving material for the exterior of the building. Where the pavers are being used is a highly accessible pedestrian area that has to be cleared of ice and snow during the winter. Based on the application, Unilock rectangle pavers with an Umbriano® finish were recommended. The Umbriano® finish provides a rich, mottled granite appearance, with built-in EasyClean® Technology for ease of maintenance and a non-slip texture. EnduraColor™ Technology is also used in the manufacturing process to create a wear-resistant, refined surface with concentrated color. These benefits combine to create a stunning and durable paved surface. The final paving design complements the contemporary style of the new facility, with the modern feel of the linear pattern, and provides the everlasting beauty that the client and designers were looking for.
