Mansfield Town Square at Storrs Center

In addition to the University of Connecticut, the town of Mansfield has a new destination point, Storrs Town Square. The town square which has now become a gathering place for the community and the university is framed by buildings from three to five stories in height. These newly constructed mixed-use buildings will offer restaurants and shopping on the ground levels with residential living areas above. The inspiration of this project came from similar college towns that have been successful, such as Cambridge, MA; New Haven, CT; and Chapel Hill North Carolina to name a few. Storrs Town Square will host a variety of events from art/craft fairs, music festivals, and poetry readings, but also be able to allow for relaxation, sitting and reading as well. Kent Frost Landscape Architecture was brought in to develop a solution that would connect the two different spaces while still maintaining a highly walkable downtown. Kent Frost was able to create a “visually engaging ground plane” by partnering Unilock. Using the Series 3000 finish KFLA was able to develop a random pattern that allowed for a broad mixture of colors and sizes. With this large of surface area water run off needed to be taken into consideration. The Series 3000 texture was added to the Eco Priora product line to allow for water infiltration across the patterns and around the circle. Mountain View Landscapes Inc. provided expert execution and installation of the town square. A gathering place has now been created for downtown Mansfield. Storrs Town Square will become a hub of community and life activity. Installer: Mountain View Landscapes
