Permeable
Famous for creating the red Radio Flyer wagon, the Chicago-based toy manufacturer with a century-old legacy repurposed 70,000 sq. ft. of its former warehouse space into a newly renovated headquarters. Focused on environmental responsibility and creating innovative solutions, the company had revamped the existing facility with a plethora of green design features. The project included recycled building materials, as well as materials from the region, building roof water retention cisterns, adding energy saving glass walls, designing a backyard garden with native plantings and much more. The entrance was paved with Eco-Promenade® permeable pavers to reduce stormwater runoff in the parking lot and driveway. As a result, the new workplace successfully captures the company’s innovative vision and reflects their long-term investment and commitment to sustainability.
