The newly built Northwester Medicine Lake Forest Hospital is a state of the art 500,000 square foot facility with 116 acres of open space. While team worked diligently to create a structure that drew inspiration from Lake Forest’s architectural heritage, it also maintained a scale that wouldn’t overwhelm the community. The extensive outdoor space includes two-tiered pond and waterfall, walking and biking trails, enormous presence of red maples and other tree and plant species to complement and envelop the new hospital. The parking lot includes center drive lanes using Eco-Line™ permeable pavers in an Ice Grey Series™ finish. The light color helps reduce the heat island effect and the permeable paver minimizes stormwater runoff helping to maintain and regenerate the local groundwater. The facility complements the unique aesthetic of Lake Forest.
