A project led by LAND Studio for more than a decade, is now complete for the city and visitors to enjoy. The previous four quadrants of awkward public space were merged into a single public park, intended for programmable use throughout the year. The space is now inviting and flexible with soft and colorful spaces, including a green sloped lawn and concert hill creating a natural amphitheater, hardscaped plaza that includes a café and seating, Speakers Terrace, the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument and a mirrored fountain water feature.
The entire plaza and the spaces in between are framed by the beautiful, heritage Copthorne® produced in a range of custom blues and greys. They were installed with spacers to allow for a permeable installation that would offset additional stormwater infrastructure. Granite cobbles used in the center walkways were set with Unilock’s Flexible Epoxy Mortar creating a mortar set look that would withstand the harsh Cleveland winters.
LAND Studio partnered with James Corner Field Operations to craft the visionary plan and together with Group Plan Commission created a true placemaking space that is equally weighted between physical transformation and ongoing programming making Public Square a vibrant and inviting hub, day and night, year round.
