As part of Addison’s Comprehensive Land Plan recommendations to improve recreational open spaces included using stormwater management initiatives to prevent flooding in various areas of the community. While parks primarily serve residents recreational needs they can also contribute to stormwater management and mitigate the effects of urban development. Village Green was updated to include a permeable roadway alongside the park for access and parking and integrated into a portion of the pathway. The paths, although non-permeable, allow for minimal runoff to the neighboring gardens and greenways while being capable of handling heavy loads, such as vehicular traffic and heavier loads such as trailers and temporary stages for events and festivals. Today this rejuvenated open space hosts concerts, farmers markets and food festivals.
