Amid Pittsburgh’s multi-family housing surge, a historic redevelopment project has transformed a large part of the former H. J. Heinz Co.’s manufacturing facility into Heinz Lofts. Despite the demand in modern architecture and popularity of condo developments, the city has shown a trend in repurposing structures, discovering the new in the old. Heinz Lofts offers its residents inviting community amenities and gathering spaces. Designer Kimicata Brothers created a pristine landscaped courtyard outside the development using Unilock Town Hall in a permeable application. Combined with unique seating and greenscape features, as well as an outdoor fire pit, the paving design maintains a time-worn, elegant aesthetic, as it complements the stunning 1890s historical architecture and original exposed brick, all the while giving the space an ideal modern urban feel and promoting sustainability on site.
