Grafton Lumberyard

Grafton Lumberyard

Breckenridge Landscape

Grafton, WI

As part of the multiphase downtown Grafton redevelopment project, the Lumberyard Public Plaza was designed adjacent to the new 1505 Apartments and other mixed-use developments in the heart of the Grafton Village Center. As the 5,000 sq. ft. area had previously been underutilized, the Village wished to transform it into a welcoming and dynamic gathering place for the community that would encourage more pedestrian and bike traffic. The public plaza was turned into a higher-end downtown location with various urban design features, such as seating areas under a wooden pergola, extensive landscaping in the form of planting, lighting fixtures and bike racks, as well as a stream-like water feature placed along a paved walkaway.

Eco-PromenadeTM plank paver in Granite Blend and a permeable application was used to create the sleek contemporary feel of the environmentally sustainable paved surface. Capable of withstanding even vehicular loads, the paver provides maximum performance for the active pedestrian street. Unilock’s Estate Wall® was also used to construct the retaining wall for this site. As a result, the new public space incorporates several activity areas, clearly outlining public versus private space, and significantly beautifying the downtown area.
