Veterans Square & Cenotaph

As part of a community infrastructure program set up to celebrate the 150th anniversary of confederation, a historic memorial cenotaph was rehabilitated and placed at the centre of a new vibrant public space located in Markham, Ontario. A key piece of the project was to preserve the original cenotaph and create a multi-functional site to honour Markham Veterans and serve as a gathering place for the community. The war memorial stands tall alongside Veterans Square and is surrounded by a large circle of maple leaves, the official symbol of Canada. Vertechs Design Inc. provided site planning and design on this project using Unilock Plank pavers with a Smooth Premier finish, completely transforming the civic space, as the long, clean lines of Plank paver add to the warm, welcoming ambiance suited for remembrance and reflection.
