The new Biopharmaceutical Innovations Building at the University of Delaware is a hub for researchers to advance the biopharmaceutical industry and for students in the field to learn from experts. The building is also home to the headquarters for the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals, where stakeholders can develop technology for advanced medicine.
The design of this building goes beyond the walls, with a spacious outdoor plaza for students and researchers to relax, grab some fresh air, or do some brainstorming. Designed by Ground Reconsidered, the sites landscape elements include a central green garden, a vegetated bioswale, outdoor workspaces, and seating areas for gathering, socializing and collaboration. The unique paving pattern of the plaza was created with Umbriano finish pavers in Winter Marvel, French Grey and Midnight sky. The pavers fade from light to dark colors as you approach focal points like seating areas and gardens. The clever use of dark paver colors in areas that typically accumulate the most dirt helps disguise stains from organic material or spills from food and drink. Not only does the dark color help with camouflaging, but the chosen durable finish of the pavers is also manufactured with EasyClean technology; an integral surface protection from stains, ensuring ease of maintenance.
This memorable paving design truly complements the modern style of the Biopharmaceutical Innovations Building and offers an everlasting beauty that will stand the test of time.
