The transformation from a two-year commuter college to a four-year college, Rowan College initiated a project that would create a new outdoor quad and Student Success Center at the heart of the Mount Laurel campus. Aimed at establishing a central activity hub, the state-of-the-art student life center features multiple modern amenities designed to increase on-campus engagement and serves as the gateway to the revitalized quad, fronting onto a series of walking pathways connecting each college building. The landscaped quad incorporates a large open lawn space that is perfect for holding large events and graduation ceremonies, as well as much smaller and intimate woodland areas, making it a welcoming place to eat and study under the shade of trees between classes. The campus pathways feature numerous built-in and moveable seating areas with a variety of planters filled with ornamental shrubs, flowering trees and grasses.
The designer, Sikora Wells Appel, created the uniquely patterned paths using Umbriano® 12×24 pavers in Winter Marvel, Midnight Sky and French Grey reflecting the energetic feel of the modern campus and adding a new dynamic to the surrounding landscapes.
