Named after the 1980s park maintenance advocacy group “52 People for Progress”, Playground 52 in the South Bronx is an exciting place for gathering, play, and bustling activity. A park heavily used by neighborhood children, the playground’s aged infrastructure was in need of revitalization, and the New York City Parks Department made the decision to launch the Playground 52 Reconstruction project. The park has undergone a major facelift, featuring gorgeous paved walkaways and a landscaped seating area for parents and children to relax, the installation of rain gardens to help capture stormwater, a new skate park, basketball courts, an accessible amphitheater and new playground equipment.
Unilock Hex Paver™ with Umbriano™ finish in Summer Wheat were chosen for the project, creating a warm, welcoming ambiance. The unique mottled surface of Umbriano provides a stain-resistant and safe non-slip surface ideal for this park application. The revitalized playground is not only a wonderful community space, but serves as an inspiration to all communities who feel strongly about the preservation of their neighborhood parks.
