Founded in 1817, the University of Michigan has long been recognized for its immense research activity and notable alumni. With an extensive network of over 500 buildings spanning more than 37.48 million square feet, the university currently serves a diverse student body of approximately 50,000.

Committed to providing an inclusive, safe and accessible environment, the University of Michigan continually invests in infrastructure enhancements and sustainability efforts, exemplified by recent developments. Notably, the Alexander G. Ruthven Building underwent a transformative three-year, $150 million renovation, converting the former museum space into a modern workspace.

Beckett & Reader redesigned the sidewalks and parking lot surrounding the Ruthven Building, selecting Unilock® Eco-Priora™ Premier with a smooth premier finish in Heritage Brown. Chosen for its permeable benefits, Eco-Priora™ Premier features 7mm gaps between units, facilitating water flow through the open graded base and fine stone chip. Unilock permeable pavers alleviate strain on storm water runoff systems, while also reducing puddling and ice buildup. This selection supports the University’s efforts towards a more sustainable future while maintaining desired aesthetic.

The Heritage Brown color seamlessly integrates with the surrounding architecture, complementing the campus’s existing brown and red tones, while revitalizing the building’s exterior. Further enhanced with Unilock Enduracolor™ technology, the Eco-Priora™ Premier pavers ensure strength, brilliant color and a wear-resistant surface ideal for the university’s high-traffic sidewalks and parking lots.

This thoughtful design not only embodies the institutions commitment to sustainability but also enriches the campus’s visual charm. Fostering an inclusive and inviting atmosphere, sure to be appreciated and celebrated for years to come.
