Michigan State University has housed an art gallery since 1959, but as the collection grew, it was clear they needed more space. In 2012, thanks to the hard work of a community organization and a generous donation by Eli and Edith Broad, a stunning, freestanding, 46,000 square foot museum opened between Grand River East and East Circle drive, visible and accessible to both the campus and community. The building, designed by late world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid, allowed the museum to increase its visibility, size, and impact, bringing international attention to the University and the State.

The outdoor space leading to the museum was designed by Hamilton-Anderson Associations and features landscaping, seating, sleek walls and Unilock Promenade™ Plank Pavers to complement the building while blending into the surrounding campus. The Promenade™ Plank Paver adds not only aesthetic beauty, with the sleek appearance of the long, narrow design but also superior endurance and function for a high traffic area. The unique mottled surface of Umbriano, in Winter Marvel, provides a non-slip surface and a natural look that will keep its color and texture for years to come.

The MSU Broad is now a fully accessible, well-known art museum with an educational facility, a works-on-paper study center, administration offices, café, shops, and a public plaza with a sculpture garden that enhances the cultural experience for locals and visitors alike.
